Welcome to Day 1 of FASTING FOR YOUR BREAKTHROUGH!
Just a few pointers as you begin:
1.) Decide whether you will be doing a Complete or Specific Fast.
- An example of a Complete Fast is found in Esther 4:16 where Esther calls her people to fast completely, without food, for 3 days. (Please take caution with this option though and check with your medical advisor beforehand, especially if you have not done a full fast before.)
- An example of a Specific Fast is found in Daniel 10:2-7 where Daniel ate vegetables only (abstaining from certain luxurious foods) for 21 days.
- You can also choose to fast one or two of your meals a day, e.g. skip breakfast/lunch/supper.
- Another way to fast includes giving up specific indulgences, e.g. social media, shopping, etc. ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT TO LEAD YOU!
2.) Let the Holy Spirit lead you through this process!
This specific BREAKTHROUGH FAST is set for only three days, but it can also be just the start of a longer fasting period for you, personally. Some options are 1 day (like the army of Israelites in Judges 20:26); 3 days (like Esther in Esther 4:16); 21 days (like Daniel 10:2-7); 40 days (like Jesus in Matthew 4:2 and/or Moses and Elijah in Exodus 34:28), etc.
3.) Decide what you're fasting for.
There are many reasons to fast (for wisdom, protection, to repent, worship, gain victory, etc). We've set this time aside specifically for BREAKTHROUGH, so be specific with God. Tell Him what you need your breakthrough for. Write it down, if possible, and journal anything you feel God is telling you during this time so that you can keep track of your progress.
4.) Prepare Spiritually.
A prayer for today -
"Dear Father God. How wonderful You are, and how wonderful Your thoughts are toward me. Thank You for your unfailing love. Thank you that You are here with me, to help guide and carry me through this time that I dedicate to You. Lead me and let me know You in a new and fresh way. Today, I humble myself before You and invite you to come and have Your way in my life as I trust You for the breakthrough of_________. May Your will be done and may Your Kingdom come in this situation. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen!"
